Maltese bid refuses to melt in the sand

Hibernians of Malta continue to have the best record in European football. They have dropped just two points from their 19 league games this season. Benfica are storming away in Portugal and Crusaders of Northern Ireland also have a 90%-plus points ratio.
|13||The New Saints||Wales||21||61-16||53||84.13|
|18||Zenit St. Peter.||Russia||17||41-10||41||80.39|
|19||Viktoria Plzen||Czech Rep.||16||33-12||38||79.17|
Other notable placings:
21- Chelsea (78.79), 24 – Porto (78.43), 25- Ajax (77.78), 27- Barcelona (77.19).
Only a handful of teams are still unbeaten: Hibernians, Bayern Munich, Dinamo Zagreb, Dynamo Kiev and The New Saints. Two teams are averaging more than three goals scored per game – Hibernians and Real Madrid, who have both scored 62 goals. Bayern Munich have the best defence – conceding just four goals in 17 games, that’s 0.24 per game.
This weekend, Hibernians travel to third placed Birkirkara, a team they only narrowly beat in October. Hibernians’ side includes a quintet of Brazilians – Soares, Dias, Lima, Edison and Jorginho – and they have contributed to the Paolites’ stunning first half campaign. Hibernians have also benefitted from the progress of Maltese under-21 international Johan Bezzina.
All thing being unequal, if you factor in relative strengths of the leagues, Bayern Munich would probably be the number one team in Europe, with Real Madrid 2nd, Juventus 3rd and PSV Eindhoven 4th, but that’s not what the Game of the People European Challenge is all about!
